Importer of Record for VHPs

We act as your Canadian Importer of Record (IoR) and handle everything from VHP notification to Health Canada compliance, so your veterinary health product can enter the market smoothly.

Your path to importing veterinary health products into Canada

If you plan to sell veterinary health products (VHPs) in Canada, you’ll need a Canadian-based entity to act as the Importer of Record. That’s where we come in.

As your IoR, we handle every regulatory step to ensure your product is properly notified with Health Canada and enters the country with full compliance.

Whether you’re importing from the U.S. or overseas, our regulatory team and in-house import division provide complete support across submission, documentation, and post-market responsibilities.

Why you need an Importer of Record (IOR) for VHPs

VHPs are low-risk products used to maintain or promote animal health, like joint supplements, probiotics, or herbal ear cleaners. While they don’t require full market authorization like drugs, they must be notified to Health Canada before import.

Legal importation

Health Canada requires all VHPs to be imported by a Canadian-based entity listed on the notification form.

VHP notification

The Importer of Record (IoR) name and address must be provided in the VHP Notification form if the notifier is located outside Canada.

Product traceability

As IoR, we maintain the records and documentation required in case of recalls or inspections.

Post-market responsibilities

The IoR ensures ongoing compliance with labelling, formulation, and recordkeeping standards.

Frequently Asked Questions

A Veterinary Health Product (VHP) is a low-risk substance used to help maintain or promote animal health. These include vitamins, minerals, herbal ingredients, and homeopathic remedies. They aren’t meant to treat or cure diseases but can support overall wellness.

Yes. To legally import a VHP into Canada, Health Canada requires a Canadian-based Importer of Record (IoR) to be listed on the notification form if the Notifier is located outside of Canada. If you don’t have one, we can step in.

Unfortunately, no. Only companies based in Canada can act as the IoR. That’s where we come in. We’re ready to support you, walk you through every step, and help you meet this requirement smoothly and confidently.

Common examples include omega-3s, probiotics, joint health formulas, herbal sprays, and ear cleaners. If you’re unsure whether your product qualifies, we’re happy to review it for you.

Health Canada generally reviews and acknowledges notifications within 30 calendar days, provided the submission is complete and accurate. We help you get it right the first time.

We don’t offer warehousing, but we coordinate closely with your logistics provider to support a smooth customs clearance and ensure all documents are in order.

Absolutely. We prepare and review bilingual labels that meet Health Canada’s VHP standards, helping you avoid delays and rejections.
