Prior Notice FDA Clearance

Shipping dietary supplements to the US requires filing a Prior Notice to the FDA. We can assist you in FDA Prior Notice Clearance and get you a barcode from the FDA that will accompany your dietary supplements at the port of entry.

Prior Notice of Imported Foods

Sending notification to Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of imported shipments of food articles before arriving in US is mandatory. The notice includes information such as product, quantity, and packaging, and related facilities, like the manufacturer, shipper, owner, and ultimate consignee.

In case an article of food arrives at the port of arrival with incompetent prior notice or no advance notice to FDA, the food will be subject to the refusal of admission and may not be delivered to the importer, owner or consignee.

Why Prior Notice is Required

According to the Bioterrorism Act, FDA must receive prior notification of food (including animal feed) that is offered for sale or imported into the US. With this advance notification, FDA (accompanied by Border Protection (CBP) and the U.S. Customs), carries out import inspections more effectively and assists in protecting that nation’s food supply against terrorist acts and other health emergencies.
