A Temporary Market Authorization is issued for products that do not meet the Canadian Food and Drug Regulations (FDR.) The purpose of the TMA is to allow the marketing of a food so that specific data can be gathered and evaluated by Health Canada with the ultimate goal of finalizing an amendment to the FDR.
Common TMA applications have been for “NHP-like” products in that Natural Health Product medicinal ingredients are being used in food formats (for example, the addition of Omega-3 in orange juice).
The Temporary Market Authorization application is considerably different than the application for a Natural Health Product in terms of the information requested. Quality Smart Solutions has been handling TMAs for our clients since their inception in the Spring of 2012.
