Registered Food Commodity

Registered foods cover all foods including fish, dairy, meat, seafood and others.

The process for obtaining a License under the new Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR) will be applicable to anyone who will be conducting an “activity”, which includes, but not limited to:

  • Manufacturing, processing, treating, preserving, grading, packaging, or labelling a food that will be exported or moved between provinces
  • Importing a food
  • Exporting a food that requires an export certificate
  • Slaughtering a food animal
  • Storing and handling a meat product in its imported condition for inspection by the CFI

The process to obtain a license will be governed and issued by the CFIA. However, once you are licensed, you must have the effective preventative controls in place.
